My Gear

I brought a good amount of gear with me to Kenya for the purpose of filming a travel documentary while I was serving as a student missionary. I really wanted to follow the stories of the various missionaries I would be working with and luckily that dream has come true this year. So for all those thinking about being a student missionary I recommend bringing a camera and plan to document your year with pictures and video.
For those interested, here is a list of the gear I brought along:
- Canon 7D
- 12-24mm f/4 (great for landscape)
- 18-50mm f/2.8-4 IS
- 50mm f/1.8
- 85mm f/1.8 (most my interview footage is done with this lens)
- 70-200mm f/4 (a zoom lens is a must for safaris)
- 32GB & 16GB CF cards (My cheap Duracell card has been a life saver)
- 3 batteries (cheap Maxtek batteries do the trick)
- Lexar card reader
- Meike LCDVF (for video in the bright sun and stabilization again the eye)
- Induro tripod
- Targus Monopod
- Cowboy studio shoulder rig
- Flycam Nano Stabilizer
- Zoom H1 audio recorder (makes for a good wireless lav setup)
- Audio-Teachnica ATR-3350 Lavalier
- 126 LED light
- Colorchecker Passport
- Meike Timer remote controller (awesome for timelapse)
- Nature Fader ND filter (great for shallow DOF in the bright African sun)
- 5-in-1 reflector (dirt cheap and helped me out when interviewing)
- A couple of Lowepro bags to haul this stuff around
- And other accessories
